Public bug reported:

Printer is a HP LaserJet 4050 connected on network using JetDirect. This
printer has functioned satisfactorily under previous versions of Ubuntu .
After installing Ubuntu 9.10, the printer installation GUI requires prompting
to discover the printer - this is different from previous versions which
detected and identified the printer without problem. However, the printer
appears to install correctly and is displayed as the default printer. When
sending a print job (including test page) to the printer the error message
'com.apple.print.recoverable' is displayed. I do not understand the meaning of
the error message. The print job might print after an extended delay of up to
1 hour. If it hasn't printed by this time it must be cancelled and removed
from the queue. Whilst in the queue, the print jobs are shown as 'Pending'.
Please ask if you require further information. This fault is common with 4
computer installations (3 x i386 and 1 x AMD64) using both desktop and
alternate installations.
