I look after a couple of U100s but have not been able to risk installing
Karmic after reading the release notes and problems I had using the
LiveCD.

Both ran the webcam (5986:0203) happily under Hardy and Jaunty although
I had to load a different version of the uvcvideo driver used for the
bison webcam to that supplied in Hardy and repeat the procedure after
every kernel update.

Are we sure it is just the latest uvcvideo driver which is at fault
here? Has that been confirmed by testing with a different version of the
driver compiled and loaded in the way I had to for Hardy?

I wrote the procedure for Hardy up at
http://www.pcurtis.com/wind.htm#webcam - I can try it with Karmic but I
not sure it will work on the LiveCD and I dare not load the full system
until the two bugs are sorted.

I agree with earlier comments that these bugs are a disaster for Ubuntu
especially now that the U100 is on offer from Argos for about £200 for
the Xmas season and need to be fixed not talked about. In the meantime
users of Winds should be warned not to upgrade and new users should load
Jaunty.
