hi daniel. thank for your reply. i found the problem doing a little more google searches.
apparently, i was asked during installation if i wanted to replace the old "menu list". at that time i wasnt sure what this menu list was, so i answered NO. now i understand that i should have answered YES. some more googling brought me to this procedure i followed: sudo mv /boot/grub/menu.lst /boot/grub/menu.lst.afterkarmicupdate sudo update-grub this re-generated a new /boot/grub/menu.lst. i just added my old Windows (multiboot) partition and everything is working fine now. thanks and you may close this ticket.
