I was on Jaunty Jackalope (and previous releases), and was burning CDs and DVDs fine. Then somewhere around 2 weeks ago, my cd burning stopped working, but the DVD burning would still work. I then upgraded to Karmic Koala, and same problem persists. I do all burning through K3B.
For burning CDs, the CD will spin up, and spin down several times. the software or hardware buffer never seems to get used, the burners never seem to start writing. On doing an incremental burn, I got the error "mkisofs crashed. cdrecord has no permission to open the device. You may use K3Bsetup to solve this problem". I looked at K3B setup, and it seemed ok. It appeared that all the CD record and programs used were checked off for use. Other errors were something like "OPC Failed. It probably doesnt like the media". I tried different CD media and no luck. or "No permission to write to device". I checked permissions on the devices and they seemed fine. It is possible the hardware burner is failing, but it seems to be specifically related to programs called by K3B that burn CDs. (?) All DVD burning (except incremental) works as advertised.
