I have also experienced this bug on both the HP G60-231WM & the Acer
Aspire 3690-2900 -- the fix is very simple... so simple you will think
"Why didn't I think of that???"

Ok so mouse doesn't work after upgrade to 9.10... then press
CNTRL/ALT/F1 to get yourself to the Command Line...

First login to root account, then goto /boot/grub/ folder to edit the
menu.lst file. This must be done because something went wrong with the
UPGRADE and your GRUB menu.lst DID NOT Update itself. So you can edit
it menu.lst with "nano menu.lst" --- once in nano then look for your
Ubuntu install id and change the First entry from 2.6.28-11(last set of
numbers in your menu will be the latest version of the install prior to
the upgrade. you will need to change it to this 2.6.31-14-generic ---
leave everything else alone just change the Kernel Version and save then
restart and Touchpad will be working again just fine

to get back to desktop once mods are doen use CNTRL/ALT/F7
