I have also experienced this bug on both the HP G60-231WM & the Acer Aspire 3690-2900 -- the fix is very simple... so simple you will think "Why didn't I think of that???"
Ok so mouse doesn't work after upgrade to 9.10... then press CNTRL/ALT/F1 to get yourself to the Command Line... First login to root account, then goto /boot/grub/ folder to edit the menu.lst file. This must be done because something went wrong with the UPGRADE and your GRUB menu.lst DID NOT Update itself.
