Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

If a symbolic name is defined for a column, then that name can be used
in formulas and Conditional Format expressions instead of the column
number.

For example:
   Click in col B header to select column B
   Insert->Names->Define
   Enter a name, say "NamedCol"

Now, a formula in D5 which was "B5+1" can instead be "NamedCol+1".
Similarly, NamedCol can be referenced in formulas entered at
Format->ConditionalFormatting.

THE BUG: If a conditional format accesses a column in the above manner,
it works only in columns OTHER THAN THAT COLUMN. In other words, if a
conditional format for a cell in column B references the symbol NamedCol
(using the above example), then the conditional format expression is
never true and the format is never applied.

This is a nuisance because you can't use the same formula for many
columns if the formula references one of those columns via a Name.

Attached is an ODS spreadsheet demonstrating the problem. I will also
attach a screen-shot of how it looks to me.
