Maybe this is common knowledge, but maybe it'll help someone out. I have a Dell Inspiron 9300, and for me to get the "merge-ignore" fix to work, I had to modify the "analog-output-lfe-on-mono.conf" file instead of the ones mentioned here. So if you have a "multimedia" laptop that uses the "Master-Mono" channel for the subwoofer, give it a try.
