I changed /etc/init.d/casper near the bottom, /live_media, to /cdrom and it did in fact eject the cd.
Of course this is CD Live so I'd have to make the change on every boot. Seems to me, way back when, Edgy had a similar problem. I'll check later daily-live/current distros to see if casper gets changed.
