Confirmed that a BIOS update fixes the problem on *my* dad's M35X-S149 :-) Paul: The sudden power-off during the BIOS update freaked me out too, but after running through that a few times, I noticed that a fraction of a second beforehand it gave a message like "update complete, rebooting system." So the updater was working correctly---it just has an *utterly craptastic* user interface.
