I am completely unable to use Amarok 2.2.0, using the 64-bit release
version of Kubuntu 9.10. I am unable to create playlists, unable to play
any music.

I have ~70GB of classical music (all ripped from CDs that I own) stored
in a detailed (rigid?) directory structure.
