Steve - the keys now do control brightness in the sense that when I press them, a graphical display appears, showing a change in the brightness level by way of a visual bar. However, the actual brightness of the display does not change, the computer just thinks it does. I'm assuming that this is a different bug, and I intend to file a report as soon as I have some free time to create a proper description of the exact problem.
