Public bug reported:

After installing kde-workspace, kdeadmin, and kde-base (along with any
dependencies), I cannot hear any audio in a KDE session using Karmic. I
have no problems with sound in GNOME, aside from now having to turn the
volume up each time I sign onto a GNOME session. I have an Intel
soundcard (ICH6) on a Toshiba Satellite M45-S265.
