After many tries and stop/restarts, finally the cron start but not with upstart but with simple "cron" from the command line and as long as I do not restart the server (which I plan not to do soon) it will run. It does execute the jobs, etc. I sent the strace from upstart because there seems to be the problem at least as I see it. This is so vague problem that I would just close this bug report until I can provide a better reproducible use case. Sorry for your time but for now "it works for me" and I do not want to take more of your time.
