I have exactly the same issue. It worked just fine in jaunty but appears to be broken in karmic. I had to fall back to listening to "cups" broadcasts in Mac OS X (which is not on by default there). Apart from that I also tested this on Windows XP (bonjour for windows) and my printer could not be detected there either.
