Hi. Just in case it helps, I've been running ubuntu 9.10 32 bits with pae support (I have 4G of RAM) for more than a mounth without lockups. As K1T suggested, deactivating acpi helped but I didn't like the idea of not beeing able to "see" the temperature of the laptop while working with it.
