I too did a full install on a pc.  Upon bootup I had exactly the same
thing happen as stated. I stumbled on a workaround.  What I did was a
ctrl-alt-del (soft boot) and the screen booted to a selection of four
choices.

I could boot ubuntu, ubuntu safe or two other memory options.  However,
that the bottom of the screen there were edit options. In researching
this issue, it mentioned eliminating that line about no floppy device
found.  So, I ented the letter "e" to go into edit mode and moved the
cursor down to that line, deleting the entire line, then hitting the tab
key to save it.  Then the instruction was to execute it using ctrl-x and
it booted normally.

That's how I've been cold booting for the past week.  I would like to
know if there is a way to fix/edit/solve this issue without doing the
"keyboard dance" so I you can, I'd appreciate how.
