To the best of my knowledge, this is an issue which cannot be addressed
at the Subversion layer, and would have to be addressed within Berkeley
DB. Accordingly, I am closing this bug report on Subversion to reflect
that.
If you wanted to pursue this, it would be best to do it with the
Berkeley DB upstream - unfortunately the project is now owned by Oracle,
and their website does not offer any bug reporting facility that I can
find.
