Sorry...now I'm not sure that this is a bug of pm-utils, because I've find out 
that HAL wasn't running on my laptop (see attached pm-suspend log)..
I've killed gnome-power-manager, started hal and restarted gnome-power-manager: 
now my laptop doesn't go in stand by if I unplug the ac cable...so I will try 
to find out why hal doesn't start at boot time...
