I had this problem for a while. Finally followed the workaround in Bug #414780 (despite misgivings about doing self brain surgery). " Workaround:
removing nouveau-kernel-source and xserver-xorg-video-nouveau with synaptic (complete removal used, but I don't think there are many configuration files), and then reinstalling... " Went fine and no more errors during installations!
