** Package changed: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) => udev (Ubuntu) ** Summary changed: - Before Ubuntu upgrade to 9.10, the Rhythmbox side pane had the item "Unknown" which I had to click to play inserted CD's. That's missing, so I can't play CD's. Help! I don't know what to do, if not that? + After upgrade to Karmic, CD/DVD drive no longer works ** Description changed: - When the upgrade for Ubuntu 9.10 was offered, I thought I was expected - to allow it to run, I am rather new at this stuff. It took all - afternoon last Sunday, a week ago, and since then I have encountered - several unfamiliar problems. The most disturbing is that the Rhythmbox - no longer contains, in the side pane, the option "Unknown" which I was - able to play my inserted CD's by clicking, once I had inserted one in - the computer mechanism for that. At that time, the computer monitor - would also display a small window telling me that it had noticed that I - had inserted a CD and asking if I wished to use Rhythmbox to listen to - it. I would then click "okay" and it would disappear that window and - open Rhythmbox. At first I didn't know what to do, and it took some - trial and error to figure out, but I found that if I clicked on - "Unknown" the computer would oblige my wish to listen to the CD by - listing all of the tracks and that then when I clicked on "Play" it - would oblige me even further by doing so. I was very happy to discover - how to do this, but now there is no item "Unknown" listed, and - therefore, having tried everything I can find to click on, and to no - avail, I am at my wits end, as I cannot listen to my CD's at all. HELP! - please? - - Apparently this involves firefox-3.5, and something about /var/log/dist- - upgrade/. I tried to figure out what is wanted for information, but - most of what I've read is beyond my vocabulary, computer-wise, which is - limited still. I am trying, but much is assumed, and it is hard to - figure out where to learn it from. Please try to help me get my CD's to - play. + When the upgrade for Ubuntu 9.10 was offered, I thought I was expected to allow it to run, I am rather new at this stuff. + ...snip... + summary: + After the upgrade, the computer no longer shows the CD or DVD after inserting them into my drive. + ...end snip... + I am at my wits end, as I cannot listen to my CD's at all.
