On edgy as well as on feisty the symlinks are properly set like:

../../share/firefox/searchplugins
(feisty2)[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$ logout
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$ ls -l /usr/lib/firefox/searchplugins
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 33 2007-02-05 11:16 /usr/lib/firefox/searchplugins ->
../../share/firefox/searchplugins
