This package needs some tweaking before it's Ubuntu-ready:
After a fresh install:
s...@wind:~$ grandfatherclock
sox FAIL formats: no handler for given file type `ossdsp'
Unable to execute >sox -v 1.0 /usr/share/grandfatherclock/Grandfather.au -t
ossdsp /dev/dsp: Inappropriate ioctl for device
s...@wind:~$
I got around this error by manually installing libsox-fmt-oss.
grandfatherclock should depend on libsox-fmt-oss or use sounds that do
not require it.
After manually installing unmet dependencies, the next attempt produces:
s...@wind:~$ grandfatherclock
sox FAIL formats: can't open output file `/dev/dsp': Device or resource busy
Unable to execute >sox -v 1.0 /usr/share/grandfatherclock/Grandfather.au -t
ossdsp /dev/dsp: Inappropriate ioctl for device
s...@wind:~$ sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/* /dev/dsp
USER PID ACCESS COMMAND
/dev/snd/controlC0: stu 1646 F.... pulseaudio
/dev/snd/pcmC0D0p: stu 1646 F...m pulseaudio
s...@wind:~$
