jeff3211, thank you for taking the time to report this serious bug.
During the very beginning of the boot process (after BIOS POST, but
before the Ubuntu splash screen), could you try and see if there is
another kernel you can boot into in the grub menu? You can get into the
grub menu by pressing the arrow keys during that part of the bootup.
