Just had this myself. Problem was caused by a bad download of the package. (Maybe there was a problem with this package - had issues on another computer, but they resolved themselves on re-trying.) A reboot did *not* fix the problem. Instead I renamed the bad package then successfully ran the update again.
Here are the MD5 checksums of the good and bad updates:- /var/cache/apt/archives$ md5sum openjdk-6-jre-head* be9e80bcfb366a514e830f4c5d61e5f0 openjdk-6-jre-headless_6b14-1.4.1-0ubuntu12_i386.deb 3b1003e9b236eb2ffad4c0ac3d4cd632 openjdk-6-jre-headless_6b14-1.4.1-0ubuntu12_i386.deb.bad Both fikles were 25891440 bytes long -- package openjdk-6-jre-headless 6b14-1.4.1-0ubuntu12 failed to install/upgrade: short read in buffer_copy (backend dpkg-deb during `./usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/lib/rt.jar') https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/482332 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
