Thanks for your reply. But this doesn't work. I think I need to describe my
situation in more detail.

My computer is a Dell Optiplex 760 Desktop with a internal speaker. I was
using Ubuntu 9.04 32bit version, and both the speaker and headphone worked
fine. Later I re-installed the 9.10 64bit version, then came the problem. I
can't hear sound from the internal speaker now, but the headphone still
works.
