Thank you for working on this! Do you plan to finish this by
integrating the check_volume() etc. functions and use the result from
check_soundcards()? Right now it seems to assign all bugs to the kernel,
which isn't suitable.
Also, you might find it interesting to copy some bits from
/usr/share/apport/package-hooks/source_totem.py. This does a test sound
on the alsa/pulseaudio/gstreamer level.
