I can confirm this bug.  I'm seeing the same thing on a HP Pavillion
ZT3000.  The SD reader worked in Edgy.

The relevant part of dmesg on boot is:

The only other output I get from dmesg is when I remove the card again,
I get:

[  416.132000] mmc0: Resetting chip
[  416.132000] mmc0: Incomplete DMA transfer. 64 bytes left.
