On Ububunt 9.04, I switched to kernel 2.6.24-24 with solved the
described problem. Now on 9.10 I see no option like this.
Is there a way out? I had no luck with all_generic_ide=1 so far:

It' s a bootable DVD. I have no problem to boot linux from this DVD with this
drive on the same PC.
