Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Hi,

I try to use a PCMCIA umts network adapter "Option N.V. Qualcomm MSM6275
UMTS chip" (1931:000c) with Ubuntu 9.10.

Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid -> card works
Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty -> card works
Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic -> Timeout while connecting with network manager

NetworkManager messages:

NetworkManager: <WARN> pppd_timed_out(): Looks like pppd didn't initialize our
dbus module
... (the full log is appended as NetworkManager.log) ...

The good news:
An USB umts network adapter "Huwai E620 USB Modem" works fine on the same
machine with the same setup.

I heard very similar complains about Sony-Ericsson PC300 PCMCIA and
Sierratec PCMCIA cards.

While testing I've included "debug" and "kdebug 5" options in
/etc/ppp/options, this gives more output but does not solve the issue of
course.

Hope the appended log files help.

3) expected to connect via Network-Manager applet exactly as it works with the
Huwai E620 USB device on the same machine (or as it did with former Ubuntu
versions)
4) "GSM network - you are now offline" after timeout.
