Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xubuntu-default-settings
This concerns xubuntu-default-settings 0.67 in Karmic.
The Xfce panel config file /etc/xdg/xubuntu/xfce4/panel/panels.xml
specifies two panels: one at the top (app menu, places menu, a few
launcher buttons, system tray, mixer, clock, actions menu) and one at
the bottom (show-desktop, task list, pager). This is pretty much the
same as it was in Jaunty, an approach that mimics the default Ubuntu
panel layout. This is what I want, and indeed How It Should Be(tm).
However, when I log in to Xubuntu on Karmic as a new user (i.e. no prior
configuration), I get only a single panel at the bottom. It has a
square-shaped (i.e. tiny) app menu, and apparently all the elements of
the intended two panels. A screenshot is attached. And as a final
confirmation of the problem, after logging out,
~/.config/xfce4/panel/panels.xml has only a single <panel> element
(corresponding to what is seen in the screenshot).
I don't know where things are going wrong, but this is clearly a bug.
