I think the only sensible conclusion is that your drive _is_ failing.
I guess the 4hr read test didnt produce errors because the drive can still read 
but has trouble writing. Either that or the samsung utility is useless. But its 
more than a stretch to assume the same bug affecting palimpsest would somehow 
carry over to windows 7. Does the samsung program read SMART values and does it 
give a report on that? Or try any windows SMART utility, if it gives the same 
result, its clearly not a palimpsest bug, its either (and most likely) a dying 
drive or a problem with samsung 's smart.
