I get the same output when I push the Check button in the update-manager in Ubuntu 9.10. I've to use Synaptic to update my system, no automatic updates. I think one package update is messing up my mouse configuration (may be X.org or HAL or whatever) and lefts my system unusable. Some areas of the desktop stop capturing mouse events, and the system becomes unresponsive. And it is not only the mouse, it also messed up the keyboard so that Alt+Tab is not working for me anymore (sometimes i end up with a "monotask" system, since i can't scape from the current application). This situation is really annoying, ridiculous and barely acceptable. And is not the first time it happens. I have suffered this situation with 8.10, 9.04 and 9.10.
