Sorry, I was mistaken. Suspend worked, because after installing and uninstalling the fglrx-driver via envy, the vesa-driver was used in the xorg.conf. in reality, none of the above mentioned methods had an effect. now it got even worse. when the ati driver is used, the screen stays black at startup. but: this does not happen, if i start in single mode and start gdm manually with "service gdm start"... maybe it's a bug in the ati-driver. the fglrx-driver won't work at all.
