I can't be sure this was the solution, or even if it applies to you, but since I uninstalled Virtual Box yesterday (Nov 20) I haven't had the crash during boot problem. I think the application installs some kind of networking shim that may cause trouble, but this is only a guess. I have the exact same system and OS as described above.
