** Description changed: Upgraded from 32 bit jaunty to 32 bit Karmic. Dvd movies used to play fine with Totem in Jaunty, now they fail to play and Totem grays out and becomes unresponsive. I have to force quit it. I can play dvd movies successfully with vlc, which I have made the default dvd movie player for now. Other then dvd movies, totem also fails to play audio cd's and gives the message: An error occurred Could not open location; you might not have permission to open the file. Totem will play all the media files that are saved to my hard drive, just nothing from optical discs. If I select rhythmbox to play audio cd's, it works as expected. I have another machine that is a clean 32 bit install of Karmic and it exhibits the same behavior. Ubuntu-restricted-extras and medibuntu w32codecs and libdvdcss2 are all installed.
