Requested files attached. Please note that these files as based on what
has been the case of the last two or so years where /etc/modules
contains an entry from snd-powermac. If this entry is removed from
/etc/modules, then no sound driver is detected or loaded (an old
feature, dating back to at least pre-Dapper).

If the machine is booted with an empty /etc/modules, then later
snd_powermac is modprobed, the original symptoms are displayed; i.e.
only a short burst (between 1 - 5 secs) of sound is heard, then the
playing application blocks.

Previously, with snd-powermac loaded, this machine has played sound in
all versions of Ubuntu except Feisty (which was installed today).
