Hi,
I came here to make the same complaint, but I do think the config should
be changed to numpy. numpy has more active support now, numeric as I
recall is deprecated.
Also, matplotlib depends on tetex, which is also not maintained any
longer. The dependency should be changed to allow us to use texlive.
