By any chance are you using an X2gen brand LCD display?

Subject: [Bug 480004] Re: Ubuntu 9.10 install problems

mine is a fresh 9.10 install.
Display came up very low res. Hardware Drivers presented three options.
Choosing the recommended (185) gave me a blank screen and the LCD complained
about refresh rate out of range..
running $sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg did nothing.
from the shell (ctrl+alt+F1) I edited xorg.conf and changed the "nvidia"to "nv"
and then restored my lowres default driver...
version 173 also did not work. same out range problem.

the oldest version works. then I can open teh nvidia display managem and
change to a decent resolution...

regards,
Luciano

4) It did not migrate my user accounts from Ubuntu 9.04

Various other annoying problems as well.
