I found the solution I have no privative drivers activated on my system. I have an INTEL video card, which works fine with the standard open drivers. But I found out several packages in synaptic which had something to do with nvidia video cards.
As I have no nvidia video card, I removed such packages. I rebooted the system and all seems to work fine (video acceleration 3D, bright up and bright down keys, sound, etc). I tested the system with the most difficult scenario (booting into jaunty with the old non-kms kernel and without kms option) and then I rebooted again inside karmic. VoilĂ ! Autologin works. These are the packages I removed from my system to make gdm's autologin working always: jockey-common jockey-gtk nvidia-173-modaliases nvidia-185-modaliases nvidia-96-modaliases nvidia-common smartdimmer xserver-xorg-video-nv The following package was also required to be removed, as it depends on xserver-xorg-video-nv package: xserver-xorg-video-all Please mark this issue as Resolved, Invalid or any other option. I am not 100% sure which nomination is the most appropiate for such case. Greetings and thank you all for your help! -- GDM autologin not working on Karmic ONLY AFTER using Jaunty (or probably also older ubuntu versions) and rebooting into Karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/462201 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
