At a forum of Japanese LoCo, a user says he encountered the similar problem.
Before kernel upgrade, the user seems to install old Remastersys which is not compatible with GRUB2. The version depends GRUB Legacy and removes GRUB2. When just installed GRUB Legacy, menu.lst does not exist. To be asked whether generate menu.lst for kernel upgrade is a normal thing. This problem seems to occur only when users install GRUB Legacy manually (or some packages dependency) on GRUB2 used system. -- Can't install new linux kernel image since it tries to find /boot/grub/menu.lst while using Grub 2 (grub.cfg) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/487355 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
