Public bug reported:
When I insert an audio CD into my CD-ROM drive, there is no obvious
indication that the system has detected it. Specifically: no disc icon
appears under the 'Places' menu in Nautilus, Rhythmbox doesn't indicate
that a CD is available even after clicking 'Scan Removable Media.'
However, I can play the music CD through VLC if I select Media > Open
Disc... > Audio CD and entering /dev/sr0 in the 'Disc device' field and
clicking the 'Play' button.
The behaviour that I expect is that when an audio CD is inserted there
would be some indication in Nautilus as well as multimedia applications
(i.e. Rhythmbox) that the new media is available.
Data CDs seem to work fine, I can see the disc icon in 'Places' and
access the data just fine.
dmesg when I insert and audio CD:
