The upgrade from Jaunty to Karmic was quite okay, but the reported issue
bugs me as well. :)

The perfect sound profile to have would be:
IEC958 output+
analog output+
analog input

It would be even more chique to have an Advanced button there that
enables one to make own sound profiles, but lets start with just the
mentioned profile. :)

The behavior that I was used to was this:
the audio output would 'switch' from IEC958 to analog (laptop
speakers/headphones) or viceversa upon removing the laptop from the docking
station or putting it back in. This was enabled by checking a box in Jaunty's
audio settings. Maybe the analog output was muted in fact when inside the
docking station, that I don't know.
