thanks for the explanation. I know realize that I encounter the same
problem on Windows XP: it takes about 30s to wake up from S3 mode. This
occurs only when my two SATA DVD Writers are connected. If I unplug
their SATA cables, wake up under XP occurs normally (I haven't tested
Unbuntu without those yet). These 2 drives are model TSS SH-S223F. So
it's likely a motherboard / optical drive compatibility issue. What
frightened me was that Ubuntu reported that my kernel would likely have
become unstable, therefore making Suspend mode useless. But I will try
to keep using it more deeply to see if it's really unstable or not.
