I just reinstalled Ubuntu 9.10 from scratch. System > Administration >
Hardware drivers wouldn't allow me to activate the proprietary Nvidia
drivers on my in-place upgrade from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10. I have a
Latitude D800 and am running 2.6.31-14-generic. I'm now running Nvidia
173.14.20 proprietary driver. Added this line to my xorg.conf file so I
could resume from suspend or hibernate. Sorry I forgot what NvAGP does
but I think it's explained in the driver's documentation. Hope this
helps.

Section "Device"
        Identifier "Default Device"
        Driver "nvidia"
        Option "NoLogo" "True"
Option "NvAGP" "1" <------ added this line
EndSection
