I am adding my vote to those who would like to have the -P option available. In the enterprise world, many corporate scripts are written and since RHEL and SLES support the -P option, our internal scripts are making use of this option. Obviously, we have a problem when porting them to Ubuntu.
Yes, we could change our scripts, or compile ourselves grep with Perl regular expression support. But this is beside the point. Ubuntu should make it easy for migration. If other distributions get it right, why not Ubuntu? Please seriously consider providing Perl regular expression to grep. -- grep -P is not supported https://launchpad.net/bugs/15051 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
