i'm not sure if this is the same problem or not, but i'm attaching this
in case it helps you or anybody else:

i added

blacklist orinoco_cs

to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

b/c my prism2-based card (Netgear MA401) wasn't scanning, and no ESSIDs
were showing up in NetworkManager.  on next reboot, it loaded hostap_cs
instead of orinoco_cs, and it found my (and my neighbors') WPA2 networks
