Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: update-manager
citing the error report:
Could not calculate the upgrade
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade. The package
'kubuntu-desktop-kde3' is marked for removal but it is in the removal
blacklist. This can be caused by: *Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu * Unofficial software
packages not provided by Ubuntu. If none of this applies, then please report
this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in
/var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bug report.
Background information: When first installing Ubuntu on this machine
about 1 year ago, I used the official Kubuntu release with the KDE4
packages belonging to it. However, while KDE4 had a few very nice, new
features, it did not have the same functionality as KDE3, which is why I
switched back to the KDE3 packages using the synaptic installer. This
seems to be the cause of the problem.
