I am seeing this for the first time in 9.10 - program windows disappear
but the program keeps running and has an icon in AWN, which I can use to
close the program safely. All apps appear to be affected, including
Thunderbird, Firefox and OpenOffice, which severely impacts on
usability. I have already reported this as a separate bug: bug #474146
