Thanks for reporting this. I've tagged it as 'new-test' so we can track it.
"Hardware Testing" and Checkbox are the same project - it was renamed between 8.04 and 8.10 from 'hwtest' to 'checkbox'. We don't backport tests to previous versions (unless they require an SRU), but we do make the current version of Checkbox available through our PPA [1] for several different versions of Ubuntu including 8.04 (however it seems that the PPA is slightly out of date - I'll get that updated soon).
