Hi Michael,
Are you still having this problem? The icon disappearing is not
necessarily indicative of a crash, as per default the icon only shows
when Ubuntu One is active. (There is a setting that changes this in the
'preferences' dialog.
I am not sure whether 'updating' includes 'checking for updates' as
well, in which case this would not be a functional bug, but a usability
issue where the text could be clearer.
